[라이브아카데미] 영어회화 | 표현 | "알다" 의 9가지 유형

 

알다, 알게 되다, 알아보다, 알아차리다

 

특히 '알게 되다'에 대해서 아래와 같이 사용하지 말자.

I got to know

I became to know

 

1. know

사실, 정보를 알고 있는 상태

- I know the way there 거기 가는 길을 알아

- I know his phone number.

- I know where she lives.

- I don't know why there are so many people there.

 

2. understand

- I understand how you feel. 네가 어떤 마음인지 이해해/알아.

- I understand why she did that but I don't agree with her decision.

- I don't understand what it means.

 

3. find out / figure out

알게 되다

모름->앎으로 넘어가는 상태를 나타낸다.

 

# 난 그걸 어제서야 알게 됐어.

이 경우 know, understand, get to know, become to know를 쓰면 안 된다!

-> I found out about that just yesterday

 

# figure out: 어떤 상황, 문제에서 방법을 찾게 되는 것

- I figured out how to use it. 

- I figured out how to get there.

- I figured out how to set up the alarm.

 

# find out: 모르던 사실, 정보를 알게 됨

figure out: 해결법을 알게 됨

 

4. realize

'깨닫다'라는 의미로 알고 있어서 잘 사용하지 못한다. 하지만 영어에서 많이 사용됨!

- I finally realized what the problem was.

I finally found out(?) what the problem was.

 

5. notice

'알리다'라는 뜻 X

notify가 '알리다'임!

notification: 알림

 

notice: 바뀐 점을 캐치한다.

- I saw my friend at school today and I noticed she had gotten a haircut. 그녀가 머리를 잘랐더라고~

직접 보고 그녀가 머리를 자른 것을 알아챔.

- She came out with a new album, and I noticed her style had changed a little bit.

- I ran into my friend on the street this morning, and I noticed she looked a little different. 그녀가 좀 달라보이더라

run into: 마주쳤다

- I noticed you were drinking a lot of coffee today, did you have troble sleeping last night?

네가 커피 많이 마신 걸 알아차렸다.

 

6. recognize

notice랑 비슷하다. 근데 분명히 차이점이 있다.

notice: 특이한 점, 바뀐 점을 캐치!하는 것

recognize: 누군지 알다. 뭔지 알다

- This morning, someone said hello to me on the street, but I didn't recognize him.

- Do you recognize this author?

보고 그게 뭔지 아냐.

- She looked very familiar, but I couldn't recognize her.

- If you saw your boyfriend's handwriting, would you recognize it?

 

7. be aware of

어떤 것의 존재 여부에 대해 아는 것

# 그 정책에 대해 전혀 모르고 있었어.

-> I wasn't aware of that policy.

- They were aware of the rules.

- They were not aware of the situation.

know: 지식을 가지고 있는 것

be aware of: 상황을 인지하고 있는 것, 어떤 것의 존재 여부를 아는 것

 

8. be familiar with

잘 알다, 숙지하고 있는 상태

 

# 잘 알다는 know well?

know well은 사람한테만 사용. ex) I know him well

 

# 사물, 상황에 대해 얘기할 때는 be familiar with~를 사용한다.

- I'm not very familiar with this topic.

- Are you familiar with this kind of situation?

 

9. tell

판단하다 -> 알다

# 뭐라고 쓰여 있는지 모르겠어

-> I can't tell what it says. 

지식X, 판단에 대한 것

I don't know what it says 이렇게 쓰면 어색하다.

 

- I can't tell the difference!

- I can't tell how they are different.

- Can you tell what this is? 이게 뭔지 알겠어?

Do you know what this is?

* realize, notice 차이

notice: 특이한 점, 바뀐 점 캐치!

realize는 모든 과정이 머리속에서만 발생한다. 예를 들어, '깨닫는 것'은 머릿속에서만 발생한다. 이게 realize

notice는 외부와의 접촉이 있어야 한다! 뭘 보고, 듣고, 만져보고 -> notice

'알다'를 표현할 수 있는 방법이 이렇게 많은 줄 몰랐다. 항상 know, understand, realize만 써왔던 것 같다.

다양한 표현들을 사용해봐야겠다.
